Another relevant pic for scale on maps

It really is interesting just how small Europe is, but how huge of an influence it has had on the world.

Europe is not really very small. You're from the United States, which are big and empty and only recently settled by the Old World, so your perspective is skewed. The Middle East is not too much bigger than Europe but is largely desert, so is North Africa. India is smaller than Europe. Northern Asia is howling wasteland. Only China stands out as significantly larger.

I mostly agree to John, but one thing I just realised it is not only about size. The Texas above encompasses countries, for examples, with 6 different languages and, at least sligthly, different cultures...

Small? If nothing got in the way with no stop-overs for rest or site-seeing and you were moving 24 miles a day it would take over 32 days to walk west to east in the texas sized area.

Europe isn't small at 3.93 million square miles it's bigger then 14.5 states of Texas. That's 133% the size of the lower 48 here in U.S..
